On Friday, June 16th, The Win Brands Group team (Love Your Melon’s parent company), was proud to spend the afternoon with the families at Ronald McDonald House of New York.
Love Your Melon continues its mission of supporting nonprofit organizations leading the fight against pediatric cancer and giving a beanie to every child battling cancer. The programs and staff at RMH of New York are a shining example of the LYM mission in action and we’re proud to partner and amplify their important work.
According to RMH, “Ronald McDonald House New York provides families of children with cancer and other serious illnesses a strong, caring and seamless circle of support.
RMH-NY offers a host of amenities including private bedrooms, family rooms, kitchens, a library, an all-new playroom, laundry facilities, tutoring, support and wellness services for caregivers, and transportation. Most importantly, Ronald McDonald House New York creates a home-away-from-home where kids can be kids first and cancer patients second.”
While some families stay just a couple of nights when in town for a specific appointment, there are families that stay at the House for years at a time. Many families are visiting from outside of the United States. In addition to the RMH on the Upper East of Manhattan that houses all families completely free of charge, the RMH in NYC is committed to addressing underserved populations through outreach services to 19 different hospital systems.
During our visit, WIN/Love Your Melon employees served lunch and handed out kids and adult sized LYM beanies to keep the families looking cool and feeling cozy. Purple, lime green, and white beanies were family favorites! We loved learning more about the House and having an opportunity to meet some of the incredible children and parents.
According to Colleen Lee, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Ronald McDonald House of New York, donated meals and volunteer support are important to the operation of the House. “The meal generously provided is a key piece to the support RMH-NY strives to provide to our families. We are grateful for your dedication to addressing the social determinants of health for families battling pediatric cancer and other complex illnesses.”
