We are comitted to funding research that leads to less toxic treatment and cures for pediatric cancer, and that is why we are partnering with CureSearch for Children's Cancer.
Through this partnership, we are funding the groundbreaking work of Young Investigator Dr. Kara Davis, who performs research on acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) at Stanford University. We wholeheartedly believe in and support this important research, because we know it will make a difference in children’s lives.
Here's what Dr. Davis had to say about her work:
'I am very proud of the work we have done with the support of CureSearch and Love Your Melon to research childhood leukemia cancer cells with the potential to save kids' lives in the future. B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (BCP-ALL) is a common childhood cancer but if it returns following standard treatment, it accounts for the most deaths in children with cancer. We're trying to determine what cells contribute to return of the cancer by isolating the cells that function in 'survival mode' and adjusting these cells so that the drugs will destroy them.
We see this work as foundational to applying to other types of cancer in children to improve outcomes and find new treatments to prevent cancer recurrence. Love Your Melon and CureSearch have made this work possible with their generous support.'
Dr. Davis’s research focuses on making a difference for children battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) - children like Chloe. When Chloe was five years old, she was diagnosed with high-risk ALL. For the next two and a half years, Chloe’s family endured long drives and unpaid time off of work to get her to treatment.
Chloe’s mom said, 'Chloe never stopped fighting. Not only was she brave for herself, she was brave for us all.'
Chloe never gave up and after a long and difficult battle, she is now finished with treatment! Today, she is dedicated to making a difference for other children. In her community, she raises awareness and money to help find a cure so that other children do not have to endure what she did.
Chloe’s story is one reason why we are proud to support Dr. Davis through CureSearch as she researches cures and ways to make treatment better for children battling ALL. Thank you for supporting children across the country just like Chloe!
