Love Your Melon Giving Model FAQ
How has Love Your Melon’s giving model changed?
Since 2015, Love Your Melon has donated 50% of net profit to nonprofit organizations that are paving the way in groundbreaking research, therapeutic experiences, and family support for children and their families in the fight against pediatric cancer - over $9.8M to date. We are proud of what we have achieved with the support of our community and partners, however things like discounts on sale prices, expanding into wholesale, increased material costs, and costs to add new products and grow our business, all impact net profit. That’s why we’re moving to a $1 per product model. With this change, customers will know exactly how much of their purchase is going towards our mission, and the amount given will not be impacted by prices and costs.
Why are you making this change now?
Since Love Your Melon’s beginning, we’ve held ourselves to high standards when it comes to both our product, and our impact. We want our customers to understand the value and impact of their purchase and giving $1 per product sold is the simplest way to do that.
How will this change impact the organizations Love Your Melon supports financially?
There will be a positive impact. When we started the process of reevaluating our giving model, two questions were top of mind: how can we be more transparent? And how can we give more? We looked at our historical sales and costs and our anticipated costs going forward and determined that our new $1 per product model results in giving more to community organizations, than the net profit model.
Will Love Your Melon maintain the same level of product donations?
This updated giving model will have no effect on our product donations, or our overall commitment to the fight against pediatric cancer. We remain committed to giving a beanie to every child battling cancer, to keep them warm and comfortable during treatment and provide smiles during a difficult time.
We will continue to support this goal by partnering closely with over 200 children’s hospitals and nonprofit organizations nationwide to ship beanies directly to children, as well as through donation events and ongoing initiatives like our Request A Hat program.
Does $1 from every Love Your Melon product go towards the fight against pediatric cancer, or just $1 for every beanie sold?
For every Love Your Melon product sold, we will donate $1 to the fight against pediatric cancer. Our products include beanies, caps, apparel, and other outerwear accessories.
Does the $1 donation per product still apply for Amazon orders, custom orders, and retail store purchases?
For every Love Your Melon product sold, we will donate $1 towards the fight against pediatric cancer, no matter whether the product was purchased from loveyourmelon.com, through our custom program/corporate gifting, our Amazon store, or from one of our wholesale partners.
What is your process for deciding which organizations to provide funding to?
Love Your Melon is committed to improving the lives of pediatric cancer patients and their families. As part of this mission, we support nonprofit organizations that are paving the way in groundbreaking pediatric cancer research, therapeutic experiences, and family support for children and their families. We review hundreds of grant applications each fall to ultimately select nonprofit organizations where our support can have the most direct impact in the year ahead. We vet every organization that applies for a Love Your Melon grant before becoming their partners. Each grant recipient must be a 501(c)(3) organization or international equivalent, which has demonstrated a strong and non-discriminatory commitment in our collective battle against pediatric cancer. Grants are awarded on an annual basis, and we announce our recipients for the coming year each January.
How does my organization become a funded partner?
Our grant cycle is open from early October until late November. Love Your Melon prioritizes long-term partnerships and potential grant recipients who carry out their work and serve children and families battling cancer on a national or global scale.
