Love Your Melon’s Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month celebrations continue! On September 27th, we held our highly-anticipated annual Minnesota Twins x Love Your Melon Game Night. This incredible event was held at Target Field, with additional experiences at both Children’s Minnesota and M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital.
With the help of the team at Masonic, several families with children battling cancer were able to attend the Minnesota Twins vs Chicago White Sox game, with tickets and a suite provided generously by the Twins organization. The Twins team made the night unforgettable, arranging a special first pitch and 7th inning stretch for the children & families battling cancer.
The ceremonial first pitch was thrown by Megan Wagner, a Cancer Captain at M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital. After Megan was diagnosed with osteosarcoma at age 8, she spent over 300 nights at M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s hospital, battling through chemotherapy, limb salvation, bionic knee implantation surgery, and life-saving LVAD open heart surgery. She currently is 15 months cancer-free, and we are hopeful that she’ll receive her heart transplant any day now. Megan is truly an inspiration; there is no one more deserving of the honor of throwing the first pitch!
The Twins won the game 4-0, but the fun didn’t end there! Players and coaches headed out to Children’s Minnesota and M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital to hand out beanies and other Twins swag to children battling cancer. At Children’s Minnesota, the kids got to meet Caleb Hamilton, Matt Wallner, Louie Varland, and Tommy Watkins along with T.C, the Twins Mascot. Tony Diaz, Jose Miranda, Jovani Moran, Luis Ramirez, brought beanies and smiles to the kids at M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital.
We couldn’t be prouder of how these events went, and the joy they brought to kids and families battling cancer. We can think of no better way to celebrate our 10th anniversary and honor Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month!
