A few weeks ago, we got to cheer on the Minnesota Wild (our home team!) alongside some of the most incredible superheroes we know.
These superheroes are local children who are battling various types of pediatric cancer. To honor these kids and give them a fun, memorable evening in the midst of treatment, we decided to bring them to a Minnesota Wild game to cheer on their favorite hockey players!
One of these superheroes is four-year-old Grant. Grant recently finished treatment and they are now monitoring him closely for any sign of cancer returning. As he recovers, his energy is coming back, and one of his favorite things to do is watch the Wild! To celebrate the end of Grant’s treatment, we brought him and his family down to be “bench buddies” with the players - he got to sit on the bench during warmups to see the players close-up and get some high fives as they skated past!
Another superhero is Liam, who is also four years old and received a cancer diagnosis in the fall of 2017. He is responding well to treatment and inspires everyone around him with his cheerful spirit and strength. We wanted to give Liam an experience he will never forget, so we set him up to ride the zamboni during the game! He was nervous to ride the zamboni at first, but after a pep talk from his dad, he rode it bravely and waved to everyone in the crowd with a big smile on his face.
With all the support from fans, this LYM Game Night was among our highest attended events to date. After the game, all LYM Game Night ticket holders were invited onto the ice for a group picture.
The turnout was great, resulting in one of the largest group photos we’ve seen!
Thank you for supporting Love Your Melon Game Nights, and more importantly, thank you for supporting the amazing children and families who enjoyed a night at the game away from their pediatric cancer treatment.
