American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society is a nonprofit organization thatĀ supports 68 active, multi-year research grants specific to childhood cancer. These grants sponsor researchers across the country who are paving the way in accelerated research for prevention and treatment for childhood cancers. Of the childhood cancers, Neuroblastoma is the most common cancer among infants between the ages of 1 and 2.
Your support has enabled us to give $25,000 to the American Cancer Society this year, which will go towards their Childhood Cancer Grant Fund and will support a number of research initiatives. One of the research trials our funding will support is the work of Dr. Andras Heczey, whose research focuses on reengineering natural killer T-lymphocytes (NKTs) in the body to kill cancer cells. This cancer-targeting molecule, called Car-NKT, kills both cancer cells and the cells that help them grow, and is now in its first clinical trial for children with neuroblastoma.
